The show brought together a diverse group of international and local digital artists, highlighting the variety of creative voices working in digital media. The Meaning of Green was a group exhibition at Gray Loft Gallery in Oakland, California, exploring the many interpretations and symbolic dimensions of the color green. The show highlighted works reflecting themes of nature, renewal, growth, and transformation.

Among the featured works was Lost in Death Valley by Sena Cakiroglu, a striking photographic piece that juxtaposes the stark desert landscape with an ethereal burst of green. The artwork was also included in the exhibition’s catalog and made available for purchase, further extending its reach beyond the gallery walls.

Jurors Ann Jastrab and Jan Watten selected 19 images from 14 BAPC photographers for the exhibition, which was presented both in person in Oakland and online from September 11 to October 30, 2020

A visual reportage documenting the devastating wildfires in the San Francisco Bay Area was presented through my photographic series Smokey Road. The project captures both the haunting destruction and the unsettling beauty of landscapes transformed by fire, offering a reflective narrative on the fragility of nature and the human impact of environmental crisis.

This body of work was featured in the November 2020 issue of Fotoğraf Dergisi, a leading photography magazine in Turkey. Through this publication, Smokey Road reached an international audience, sharing the emotional and visual intensity of one of California’s most infamous wildfire seasons while contributing to the global dialogue on climate change and resilience.

The quality of light on a subject had a profound effect on the power of a photograph. Its color, direction, and diffusion often defined the success or failure of an image. As filmmaker Aaron Rose once said, “In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary.”

This exhibit, held from December 31, 2020 – January 21, 2021, featured images whose strength relied on the quality of the light. Whether light or dark, bright or dull, natural or artificial, the subject of these works was the magic, the possibilities, and the nuances of light itself. All capture and processing methods were welcomed.

The exhibition was juried by Laura Moya, who selected approximately 40 images for display in the Middlebury gallery and another 40 for the Online gallery. All chosen works were also published in the official exhibit catalog.
